George Lopez Want to Be Mayor of L.A.?

Comedian George Lopez told an L.A. TV station that he plans to run for mayor in eight years.


Though he joked throughout the interview, he told KTTV FOX 11's "Good Day L.A.," seemingly in all seriousness, "I want to be mayor of Los Angeles."
"If Arnold Schwarzenegger can be governor, why can't George Lopez be the mayor of Los Angeles?" he asked.
He deadpanned that he'll be "Lo-bama" but instead of making change, he'll "want your change," as in, he'll ask for people's spare change.
The funnyman and host of TBS' "Lopez Tonight" says he's planning his run for eight years from now, adding, "By that time the population of Latinos in California [will be] 96.4 percent."
If Lopez were to become mayor in eight years, he'd be only the latest in a long line of entertainers to become politicians, following in the footsteps of the late former California governor and President Ronald Reagan, former mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea Clint Eastwood, current Minnesota Senator Al Franken, the late former U.S. Congressman Sonny Bono, former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, and many more.
