Levi Johnston spoke candidly to CBS' "The Early Show" on Friday morning about his recent break-up with Bristol Palin and his mayoral race.
Bristol has criticized Levi in the past of chasing Hollywood dreams of becoming a star. He made headlines by posing for Playgirl magazine and has walked high profile red carpets. With rumors swirling that Bristol will be a contestant on the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars," Levi responded, "I don't think I'm any more obsessed with making a career out of this than she is." Bristol previously appeared on an episode of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."
Should Bristol make an attempt at dancing her way to the mirror ball trophy, Levi said, "Great, go for it." He also expressed confidence in his chances of winning the mayoral race in his hometown of Wasilla, Alaska. When asked if he would get the votes, he said, "I don't really think mayor's about qualifications, but people liking you." He is working towards getting his high school diploma to prepare for the job prospect.
If he were to be named mayor of Wasilla, he'd follow in the footsteps of Sarah Palin, but that is not the reason for his campaign. "I don't care what she did or where she was at," he maintained.
Now taking back an apology he issued to the Palin family during his and Bristol's short second engagement, he revealed "that was something I did to make my fiancé happy." He wanted to appease his future in-laws and keep the peace with the intent that he and Bristol would go forth in marriage. Levi now says the apology "makes me sound like a liar."
While he is holding off on exchanging vows for the time being, Levi said he would like to expand his family with more children down the road. He fathered son Tripp with Bristol.
