Set in a small Texas town, 'Bernie' follows "a Renaissance man-community leader-mortician" played by Black, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bernie strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow (MacLaine) who turns out to be a little too particular. Bernie kills her, but then goes to great lengths to keep up the illusion that she's still alive.
Scheduled to begin filming in October, the film will reunite Black with his 'School of Rock' director Richard Linklater.
